Understanding the Service

What Are Home Modifications?

Home modifications are environmental changes made to your home to improve safety, accessibility, and independence. Our occupational therapists assess your home and functional needs, then design and coordinate modifications — from simple grab rail installations to complex structural works — so you can move freely and safely in your own space.

  • Grab rails and safety installations
  • Bathroom and wet area modifications
  • Functional home assessments
  • Ramp and threshold access works
  • NDIS-funded and privately funded options available
Types of Modifications

Basic & Complex: What's the Difference?

The NDIS distinguishes between basic and complex home modifications based on scope, cost, and structural impact. We handle both.

Basic

Basic Modifications

Minor, low-risk works that don't require structural changes to the property.

  • Grab rails and handrails
  • Lever door handles
  • Non-slip flooring strips
  • Portable ramps
  • Tap and fixture modifications
Complex

Complex Modifications

Larger structural works requiring builder coordination, council approval, or significant construction.

  • Bathroom and wet area redesign
  • Permanent ramps and step removal
  • Widened doorways and hallways
  • Ceiling hoist tracking systems
  • Kitchen accessibility remodelling

How It Works

From Assessment to Completion

We manage the full process — from the initial home visit through to builder coordination and sign-off.

1

Home Visit & Functional Assessment

Your occupational therapist visits your home, observes how you move through the space, and identifies areas where modifications would make the greatest difference.

2

Modification Report & Recommendations

We prepare a detailed report outlining the recommended modifications, specifications, and justification — required for NDIS approval of complex works.

3

Builder Coordination & Approvals

We liaise with your preferred builder or help source a suitable contractor. For complex works, we assist with council or landlord approval where required.

4

Sign-Off & Follow-Up

Once works are complete, we conduct a final review to confirm the modifications meet your needs and make any adjustments if required.
